In this Behind the Scenes video Jon McFarlane is joined by Joe Neate to discuss the upcoming addition of The Pirate Emporium in Sea of Thieves. Watch the video above for the full run down.
As always, if you don’t have time to watch the video we’ve included a full summary below.
The Pirate Emporium
The Pirate Emporium is an additional revenue stream to help the continual development of Sea of Thieves.
The core ideas behind the Emporium are to “never sell power”, no separation of players, completely optional, and no loot boxes or random chance items.
To make purchases in the Emporium you’ll spend Ancient Coins, which can be purchase for real-world money.
Ancient Skeletons have a rare chance of spawning in the game world, and killing them before they burrow back into the ground will earn yourself, and your crew, some Ancient Coin.
There are three main categories in the Emporium: Pets, emotes, and “Heritage ship cosmetics”. The first of these will be the full Bird and Bear set, which includes the livery, sails, flag, capstan, wheel and cannons – with two additional collectors items (figurehead and sail) for the ultra-fan.
New items will come in to the Emporium over time, with the chance that some items may cycle out too – though those will have plenty of advance warning before they leave.
They don’t expect all of the players to buy everything, and people who do should spend within their means. The idea here is to help service the game going forward, and give players options of things they might like to spend money on.
The Pirate Emporium will launch into the game on Sept 11, 2019.
